About Us
If
there is a group of individuals more appreciated on football Saturdays
than the Blue Band, it is the Blue Band Alumni who return every Homecoming
to participate in the Alumni Blue Band. The almost 400 members who march
at the game are highly respected by the current Blue Band, the university,
and the fans who love to watch them perform. Much of that respect stems
from watching these men and women, some of whom are in their eighties,
march onto the field playing the Penn State school songs with as much
vigor and enthusiasm as the younger student band.
The
Alumni Blue Band Association (ABBA), made up of nearly 1000 members, is
the largest Affiliated Program Group at the Pennsylvania State University.
APGs are groups of alumni and friends who are affiliated with a Penn State
college or constituent organization because of their academic backgrounds
or an interest in an extracurricular activity. Membership is open to anyone
who was a member of the Penn State Marching Blue Band or other university
bands program who has completed one semester of participation.
