Many
thanks to all of you who contributed to this great success! There are
so many who worked on Homecoming it is difficult to single out everyone
here, but I want to express my sincere appreciation for the contribution
and dedication to the entire Homecoming Committee, each and every one
of you.
A special thank you to Bill Rubert who for the past five years has left
a strong legacy on which all of us can build. During Bill's tenure we
added hotel rooms (a much needed addition), transportation buses, new
stadium music, additional funding by the Penn State Alumni Association,
and many innovations that greatly improved the experience for our members.
Thanks Bill! Oh, and we know where to find you if we need help, lol.
And thanks to Sue Delanko for stepping up and joining the Homcoming committee
as co-chair for 2007. You have already made an impact. We look forward
to your continued leadership in 2008.
Thank you to Joyce Hoffman who helped host the Post Parade Reception,
deftly chaired once again by Joe Rokita, and who co-sponsored the event
through the Arts and Architecture / Performing Arts Alumni Society. We
appreciate your financial support of ABBA. Your visits with alumni at
each table during the event really added to its success.
We all need to give a big thank you to Roger Williams for the Penn State
Alumni Association sponsoring our registration breakfast and Saturday
transportation buses once again. I will be sending a letter separately.
And we can congratulate him on a great debut performance with the alumni
pep band expertly rehearsed and directed by Tom Range at the Ice Cream
Social.
Thank you to Les Hart for leading the PSAA tent pep band again. We appreciate
your leadership of this important event.
Thank you to Mark Heckel for negotiating with PSU to provide a smooth
bus transportation between registration and rehearsal.
Thank you to Bep and Gregg Graham for managing instrument preparation.
Bep has been a leader for many years of this critical work which ensures
borrowed instruments are in working order and properly tuned. We appreciate
your continued dedication!
Thanks to all the volunteers for packet stuffing, registration and so
many other activities. There are too many people for me to keep track,
and I may be missing many of you, but here it is what I have:
Mark King, Eric Menendez, Shannon Leferve, Ed Carpenter and his wife,
Cathy Harmonosky, Beth Cristina, Kim Strine, Larry Parko, Dick Ammon,
Andrew Jackson, and my dad. I know there are others to recognize so please
let me know.
Also, a big thank you to Dr. Bundy, Karen Walk, Mr. Cree, the entire Blue
Band staff, and the current Blue Band officers and students for your support
of the alumni. You make it easy for us to jump back into the Blue Band
family and get things done at PSU.
Lastly and most importantly, all of this would not be possible without
the dedication and talent of our staff assistant Helen Meyer. We appreciate
so much all the extra hours Helen puts into Homecoming preparation all
year and especially the month leading up to the weekend. Helen eagerly
accepts new tasks like the block setting and deals so well with the inevitable
surprise requests, new music, communications, and last minute registrations.
Helen, I hope you find time for a little rest. You deserve it!
The commitment by everyone makes this one of the greatest events at Penn
State and makes us the best college alumni band in the nation! I am proud
to be a part of it.
For the glory,
Conrad Steinmann
President, Alumni Blue Band Association.
